Ice age? Let's see. People call it the ice age because there were cold temperatures during the winter and short and muddy summers. Glaciers covered the land and eroded the geographical features. After the ice age, everything dried up and many large mammals died. The ice age brought many perminent changes to the world. Hope this helps!

What changes in the earth orbit and the tilt of the earths axis cause ice ages?

Climate

Why does earth experience ice ages and other climate changes?

Changes in solar output, changes in Earth's orbit, and changes in Earth's atmosphere.

Who is Milankovic?

Milutin Milanković was a Serbian mathematician, astronomer, and geophysicist known for his work on the mathematical theory of climate and the study of Earth's long-term climate variations. He proposed the theory of changes in Earth's orbit and tilt as the key drivers of ice ages in what is known as the Milankovitch cycles. His work revolutionized the understanding of Earth's past climate changes.

What are current theories about the cause of ice ages?

Current theories suggest that ice ages are caused by changes in Earth's orbit and tilt which affect the distribution of sunlight on the planet. These variations in the Earth's orbit and tilt lead to fluctuations in the amount of solar radiation reaching different parts of the globe, triggering the growth and retreat of ice sheets. Additionally, factors such as volcanic eruptions and changes in greenhouse gas concentrations can also influence the climate and contribute to the onset of ice ages.

How can changes in the water cycle cause ice ages and in ssea level?

Changes in the water cycle can bring ice ages and can higher and lower sea level because when earth had much cooler temperatures the water cycle was forced to stop cycling so now that the climate has changed the water cycle pumps up more water creating higher sea levels which also creates ice ages by bringing cold weather.

Why do ice ages end?

Ice ages end due to a combination of factors, including changes in Earth's orbit, variations in solar radiation, and changes in greenhouse gas concentrations. These factors contribute to gradual warming of the climate, leading to the melting of ice sheets and the transition out of the ice age period.

Compare the Earths climate today with its climate during the ice age?

it's warmer and drier now, than during the Ice Ages

The Milankovitch theory states that ice ages are not one long cold spell and that?

they occur as part of natural climate cycles caused by changes in Earth's orbit, tilt, and precession. These variations affect how sunlight is distributed on Earth's surface, leading to long-term changes in temperature and ice volume. The theory helps explain the periodicity of ice ages over geological time scales.
