Immediate effects- the damage that occurred in the minutes, hours and days after the earthquake and tsunami struck.

The tsunami was incoming the roads and highways, where many people were trying to drive away to escape the danger.

People became homeless within minutes as they watched their homes get swept away by the tsunami waves, cars and people's belongings are instantly lost as the water sweeps everything in its path. Many were living out in the open air until they were soon moved to emergency shelters, many of which were in school gyms and community centers.

Tourists and commuters (people that travel for work) can't get back home to their country as the Sendai airport is surrounded by water and planes have been swept away and also ceilings fall down inside.

Residents of towns and villages are destroyed, buildings, schools and work offices are falling down and being flooded as shops too and being wrecked by the earthquake and the huge tsunami waters.
