What will happen over the next 50 years, or what human life will be like in 50 years. I guess it all depends on whether one is a pessimist or an optimist. Whether one is an environmentalist, or otherwise. Any predictions will be as much fantasy as having any element of truth.
Computers will continue to gain in power.
In the near future, there will be huge bandwidth problems as technology and goals outstretch the infrastructure that we have in place. For example, people will desire blu-ray quality downloads, and the infrastructure to distribute them will begin to be put in place. However, there will be a lag with the ISPs to provide the access. However, these immediate problems will be resolved over the next 5 decades, perhaps to be replaced by new desires or needs for more computer resources.
Dedicated "Entertainment Rooms" will likely become more popular, with people choosing ungodly large wall sized TVs, or perhaps even surround TV's.
There will be some rebounds between store-bought food vs good old fashioned home cooking, home canning. And perhaps this will be a symbol of large segments of the population looking back towards the "old ways".
There will be a gradual shift to more efficient automobiles, and to Electric Automobiles. But, it will be a slow and tough process. It will come in leaps and bounds and will also include some brownouts, power rate hikes, electricity commodity trading, and construction of new Nuclear Power Plants.
Despite better computers and increased safety standards, there will be increased pressure to keep old nuke plants active and pushing for peak production. The power crunches may lead to at least one major event at a nuclear power plant.
The first Fusion Power Plant will probably come online. But we have yet to see the full ramifications of this technology.
There will be a reawakening in Space Exploration. The first permanent Lunar settlement will be in place. The first Mars and Venus settlements will be in the planning stages.
There will be a better understanding of Gravity and the "fabric of space", but there will not be any FTL or Warp Technology coming out of it in the near future. Perhaps a "Generation Ship" to the Centauri Star Cluster will be in the planning with a goal of arrival in a few centuries.
There will be more technology to extend life, including cultured organs. However, it will be impossible to fully prevent the deterioration of the mind in conjunction with he rest of the body.
Economic Crises will continue to rock the world. There will be repercussions of advancing automation vs "Jobs" and "Job Satisfaction". We will reach a stage where, say half the world population "doesn't need to work". And the economic consequences of this will not be ripples, but more like a tidal wave through our society.
The Global Human Population Growth will reach a crisis. Especially with respect to differences between the "developed world" and the "developing world", distinctions that will continue for many decades to come. Economic repercussions due to the automation as well as continued population growth will hit the developing nations heavily.
The Woolly Mammoth will be cloned. But, there will continue to be pressure of the imminent extinction of species. As the human population continues to grow, there will be continued battles between conservationists, poachers, and just needs for more housing and arable land.
it will probley end life as we know it
All life would end
A climax community would form
