Cellular respiration cannot happen without oxygen. If there is no oxygen, only the glycolysis step will occur, and no ATP (energy) will be made, resulting in death. That is why humans die out in space; no oxygen is capable of being found, and cellular respiraiton cannot occur.

An organism lacking oxygen for cellular respiration would die, because oxygen is needed to make energy to live.

There are now 7 billion people on the planet, and that number is growing continually. We all consume oxygen and expel carbon dioxide.
