There are several things to look for in a volcano that is showing major signs of unrest, however it should be noted that no amount of unrest is a sure fire indicator of an eruption. As fast as unrest starts in a volcano it can just as easily cease. Some of the major indicators however that one would look at are seismic information, deformation information, visual observation, gas discharge levels, as well as satellite thermal imaging. All of these different aspects can give greater understandings of what is going on inside a volcano since unfortunately we do not have the ability to actually look inside of them yet.
Here is a breakdown of each category:
Before a volcano erupts, there may be high frequency and low frequency earthquakes, changes in shape or size of the volcano, and tremors.
In that case, the volcano would be referred to as dormant.
You would call this volcano dormant. Dormant means that the volcano could erupt but right now the volcano is inactive/dormant.
On average, a volcano might erupt about 50 times a year worldwide, so in a century that would be roughly 5000 times. However, the actual number can vary greatly depending on the specific volcano and its activity level.
Yes. There are volcanoes in cold regions including Iceland, Alaska, and Antarctica. The heat of a volcano comes from deep within the Earth, where conditions are not affected by temperatures at the surface. To something as hot as lava, the difference between what humans consider warm and cold is quite small.
Before a volcano erupts, there may be high frequency and low frequency earthquakes, changes in shape or size of the volcano, and tremors.
Yes. If it had never erupted then it would not be a volcano.
A submarine Volcano.
it can not
In that case, the volcano would be referred to as dormant.
A volcano erupts when one tectonic plate subducts below the other. The magma then flows through the gap, causing the volcano to erupt. This is called a destructive plate boundary xxx
Example sentence - I hope the volcano does not erupt while I am visiting in Italy.
yes it would be likely, because you never know what a volcano will do
get my family and run for cover or go to the airport
Volcanoes can be either active, dormant, or extinct. Dormant would be the closest match to the description "unlikely to erupt".
No. At least hurricanes do not cause volcanoes to erupt. The two are unrelated. A volcano could erupt after a hurricane strikes, but the timing would simply be a coincidence.
You would call this volcano dormant. Dormant means that the volcano could erupt but right now the volcano is inactive/dormant.
