I think Paul Ehrlich discovered eosinophils
Paul Ehrlich is best known for his discovery of salvarsan, the first effective treatment for syphilis. He also proposed the "magic bullet" concept, suggesting that drugs could be designed to target specific disease-causing agents without harming healthy cells.
Dr. Paul Ehrlich was the first person to treat disease using chemicals. Before him medical treatments were broad spectrum. He fathered the idea that a medical treatment could be custom made to target the specific cause (syphillis in this case) of disease. Chemotherapy is the treatment of disease through customized chemical compounds which have specific biological targets and do not attack the entire organism which contains the target.
Paul Ehrlich discovered that only alkaline disinfectants are effective against Mycobacterium through his experiments on different chemical agents and their effects on bacteria. He found that Mycobacterium has a unique cell wall structure that is resistant to many disinfectants but susceptible to alkaline solutions. This led to the discovery of the effectiveness of alkaline disinfectants against Mycobacterium.
Arsphenamine was given the name Salvarsan 606 because it was the 606th compound tested by German scientist Paul Ehrlich in his search for a treatment for syphilis. The name Salvarsan is derived from the German term "salva arsphenamina," which means "arsenic compound that saves."
