The light bulb was being used inside of Tesla's laboratory long before Edison "invented" it. Electric current was also being used many years before Edison started playing with the incandescent light bulb.

Edison made the light bulb cheaper and offer us a method of using power on a larger scale. Unfortunately, his concept was dwarfed by the far superior system invented by Westinghouse and Tesla.

Edison picked direct current as the generation system while Tesla's was alternating current. The winning system was A.C. Edison's never took off because power could not be transferred over any distance with D.C.
