The most prominent historic eruptions of Mauna Loa with extensive lava flows were in 1855, 1881, 1887, 1907, 1916, 1919, 1926, 1935, 1942, 1950 and 1959.
There have been no recorded deaths as a direct result of the last eruption of Mauna Kea, which occurred around 4,500-6,000 years ago. Mauna Kea is currently considered dormant, with its last activity being in the form of lava flows rather than explosive eruptions.
