There are three areas in the United States in which there is volcanic activity. The first is in Hawaii, with the main threat coming from Kilauea, which has been erupting continuously since 1983.
The next zone is the Cascade Volcanic Arc, which stretches from British Columbia to northern California. The volcanoes here are prone to explosive eruptions which are less frequent but potentially more dangerous than kilauea's lava flows. The most notable activity here in recorded history was the 1980 eruption of Mount St Helens.
Finally there is the Yellowstone Caldera, which is the product of a supervolcano in Yellowstone National Park. The chances of an eruption and especially a super eruption in our lifetimes is incredibly small, but hydrothermal activity in the area has claimed a few lives.
