Approx. 20% of the population lives in the Greater Copenhagen area, which located on the eastern edge of the island of Zealand ('Sjælland' in danish, originally meaning 'Seal Island'). While it's not that unusual for a country to have such a large part of the population living in the capital area, it is usual to have a Capital at the outer rim. This is due to the fact that until 1658 this location was centrally located in the country.
