Lapis Lazuli is mined in many provinces in Afghanistan. It has been mined as early back as 6000 years ago. It was used in many different healing ceremonies and was even used as a chest guard in early battles thousands of years ago. I have recently returned from the Orizghan province and it is mined and sold there. I bought a beautiful little piece at local market for fifteen dollars US ($15).
