no, its actually the respiratory sytem and the circulatary system, i mean without breathing in oxygen and without the heart pumping blood round the body we would be dead. these both systems actually work together in a way the blood absorbs the oxygen then the heart pumps the blood round to the varios parts of the body.

While I respect your opinion, I believe it is important to consider that the nervous system controls both of these systems. Perhaps one should look at importance of the systems in terms of which are most vital. These two systems would cease to functions if not for the nerve impulses of the nervous system. It plays one of the most vital roles in homeostasis, and when one is brain-dead the only way that one can remain alive is by creating a sort of faux nervous system. Without its control, the rest of the body would not be able to perform its everyday functions, and would certainly be unable to respond to emergencies. Consider that the body is a company, and the nervous system is the CEO. While other parts of it may be important to its success, they have no job without the boss.
