Neptune.

When perturbations in the orbit of Uranus were observed, Le Verrier proposed that this was caused by another planet. He used mathematics to calculate the orbit and position of this planet; it was observed through telescopes and named Neptune.

Years later, perturbations in the orbit of Mercury were observed. Le Verrier once again thought that another planet caused this, he calculated the orbit and named the planet Vulcan. There's no planet Vulcan however; the orbit of Mercury is 'disturbed' by other factors then unknown.

The calculations for Neptune were also done in England by John Couch Adams. He sent his results to the Astronomer Royal, Airey, but he put them in a drawer and forgot about them :).
