Believe it or not train operators created time zones. When trains were big in the U.S. a slow or fast train
could mean collision with another train at a crossing.
The problem with that was most towns had their
own time. So train collision were common.
Several train engineers got together with congress
and started time zones. People all over the world accepted this
and collisions were no longer an issue.
The only country not to accept this was china.
