Who did Ares the Greek god need?

Ares was the personification of everything that was horrible about war. But even while it was awful and hated, even the Greeks knew it was necessary. Even the Spartans feared him more than they worshiped him. He was the only Olympain who has no Temples built in his honor.

Oddly, his Roman counterpart, Mars, was widely worshiped as one of the patron deities of Rome. The Temple of Ares at the Agroa of Athens was built by the Romans.

This shows a fundamental difference in how the Greeks and Romans viewed their place in the world.
