Blood in humans, and in other animals, is simply a different form of the salt water in which simpler organisms live. Instead of using an external system, which has fewer controls, a living organism uses an internal circulatory system to connect its cells. This avoids many unwanted interactions, but also presents a more complex medical situation if it needs to be altered or replenished. The watery, yellowish "plasma" of the blood is mostly dilute saltwater.
