Science has always been modern, it is a continuous process of trying to unravel and understand the nature in a comprehensible manner. As far as founder is concerned, one could assume that science in the true modern sense began from the moment numbers have been used (abstract use of numbers), that is from the time of earliest mathematicians. While one could argue that it could have begun with medicines, it however cannot be true as some animals have shown the ability to cure (medicate) themselves using natures help. The ability to logically reproduce the results in an unbiased manner and the ability to understand it (phenomenon) logically is very important to science. The method is as important as the result or perhaps more important than the result itself. This is what makes mathematics the universal language.
Roger Bacon
