First to realize America wasn't Asia
Early Man first noticed comets. Comets were around long before humans.
First and foremost is the sun. About it are arrayed eight planetary objects, their moons, numerous dwarf planets, an asteroid belt, a Kuiper Belt (largely comprised of icy cometary transneptunian objects), and beyond that an Oort Cloud, or shell of icy cometary debris. Short period comets hail from the Kuiper Belt, while long period comets may come in from any trajectory and originate in the vasty deep--very far from our sun.
To have a comet named after you, you typically need to have played a significant role in the field of astronomy, such as discovering comets or making valuable contributions to the study of celestial objects. Generally, the International Astronomical Union is responsible for officially naming comets and follows specific guidelines and criteria for the naming process.
The first planet orbiting the sun is Mercury, and the last planet is Neptune. Mercury is the closest planet to the sun, while Neptune is the farthest.
NASA's first telescope placed into orbit was the Orbiting Astronomical Observatory 2 (OAO-2), launched on December 7, 1968. It was the first of a series of orbiting observatories designed to study celestial objects without the interference of Earth's atmosphere.
I think it was Aristotle who first used the Greek word from which "comet" is derived.
"Orbiting" has a short vowel sound in the first syllable.
Some of the trans-Neptunian objects would fit that description, perhaps Pluto, or it's moon Charon. One's first inclination is to say "comets", but astronomers have come to find that comets are rarely "spheres", they tend to be potato, bean or "peanut" shaped.
The first orbiting space station was Salyut 1, launched by the Soviet Union in 1971.
There are other dwarf planets, comets, and Kuiper belt objects
Houston Comets
In 1577 a Dutch Astronomer was the first to deduce that comets were outside of our atmosphere. Next it was Issac Newton who concluded that gravity was what caused them to accelerate like they do.

Originally recorded by Big Joe Turner, a blues legend. It was later recorded by Bill Haley and the Comets, and became his first chart hit, rising to number 7 in August, 1954.
