Ageism happens for the same reason that the glossy magazines portray young vibrant, airbrushed, gods and goddesses. Society "buys" into it. Many people truly believe that the persons portrayed on the covers and feature articles are "perfect" and "true copies" of the persons that they and the articles claim them to be. Truth is "most" information and photos are heavily scrutinized prior to approval based on what society will "buy", both financially and otherwise. Ageism happens for the same reason. Corporations, and even smaller "dynamic" wannabees hire persons that they feel reflect the image that they are trying to demonstrate to those who are "buying", usually looking to project a young, vibrant, outgoing, young and versatile, up and coming, next generation, and young Einsteins, ready to take on the world. Truth is, the majority fail. Why? Well, because, they have no experience. Ironically the one thing they all discriminate against is the one thing that would have helped them succeed. Wisdom... that one thing that youth will never have. Why? Simply stated...because that is only acquired through the aging process, experience, and learning through experience.
