In general they aren't bad in any way, they are unavoidable and you could not exist at all without them. Every element has isotopes (if it didn't it could not be an element), the usual ones we encounter (and that make up our bodies) are harmless (e.g. carbon-12, carbon-13, carbon-14).

However some isotopes are unstable and thus radioactive, giving off rays that can harm living tissue. Carbon-14 is one, but it occurs at such tiny levels (1 PPT) that the body is usually able to repair any damage that does happen.

How can we use isotopes to help us?

Isotopes can be used in various fields to enhance our understanding and capabilities. In medicine, radioactive isotopes are employed for diagnostic imaging and cancer treatment, allowing for targeted therapies. In environmental science, stable isotopes help trace sources of pollution and study climate change by analyzing past atmospheric conditions. Additionally, isotopes are crucial in archaeology for dating artifacts and understanding historical timelines through techniques like radiocarbon dating.

What is isotope and show us List of atoms having isotopes.?

Isotopes are atoms of the same element with the same number of protons but different number of neutrons. Some examples of atoms with isotopes are hydrogen (protium, deuterium, tritium), carbon (carbon-12, carbon-13, carbon-14), and uranium (uranium-235, uranium-238).

Are most of the periodic table isotopes?

No most of them are not isotopes. Few elements exist as isotopes.

What are some of the roles of isotopes?

- Isotopes are used as sources of radiation in medicine, sterilization, nondestructive control, etc.- Isotopes can be used as tracers- Isotopes can be used as energy source- Isotopes are used for radioactive dating- Isotopes are used in chemical analysis- Isotopes are used in many instruments- Isotopes are used as source of nuclear energy in bombs and nuclear reactorsetc.
