In April and October, the sun is on one side, so the Northern Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere's light will be fairly equal, but that doesn't mean that the western side of the earth gets less light than the eastern side of the earth, because the earth spins around, so different parts face the Earth. The part of the Earth facing the sun is in daylight, and the part facing away from the sun is in night time.
