Because there is more vegetation and opportunities for herbivores to feed and graze. Browsing can only get them so far, as the trees tend to grow too high for most browsers to even reach.

No, the noun rainforest is a singular, common noun; a word for any rainforest. Scientists use the word but it is a general term rather than a scientific term.

What layer of the rainforest is the opium poppy in?

Poppy is a flower that grows up to 3 feet tall or so. It doesn't necessarily grow in the rainforest, rather farmers clear the rainforest to cultivate poppy in rural parts of the rainforest. Poppy grows on the ground, but the problem is the destruction of the rainforest that comes with growing it. Besides physically damaging the rainforest, the farmers, guerrillas, and cartel build roads that have devastating edge effects to the ecosystems. Poppies actually would not grow well in rain forests, as they require soil that drains well and at least partial direct sun. That is why they do well in places like Afghanistan.
