A map is a diagram illustrating and therefore communicating some aspect of reality. Therefore a geographer will chose the map form that is most appropriate for the subject to be communicated.
For instance a map of the world could show countries in proportion to their true area. Or the size of the countries could be scaled in proportion to their population.
Also when making a flat map of a sphere (the globe of the Earth) it is impossible to "flatten" the surface without causing tears or distortions. All flat maps are therefore projections which contain distortions. Geographers will choose a projection which does not distort the aspect they are trying to show.
Two projections used by geographers are Equal-area projections and- here's a guess for the second- ground surveys.
Geographers use colors, shading, or patterns to represent different regions on maps. This helps to visually differentiate between one area and another, making it easier to understand and study spatial patterns and relationships.
Different types of maps help with all sorts of things. For instance, if you are using a globe, you can't see all the way around unless you walk around it, or turn it. Cartographers have made maps in such a way as to resemble a globe if the map was cut off of it. However, that is just the tip of the iceberg.
One advantage to using a globe is that you can more accurately determine distances than you can with a flat map. Flat maps distort the spherical surface and that distortion can be significant over long distances.
An atlas is a collection of maps that geographers use to study and analyze different regions of the world. Geographers use atlases to understand spatial patterns, relationships between places, and physical features of the Earth's surface. Atlases help geographers visualize data and make conclusions about various geographical phenomena.
Globes and maps
Geographers use maps because that's what geographers do for a living. Geographers use maps to learn about the Earth's surface. That is their job.

Geographers who make or design maps are called cartographers.

Geographers will use there own maps and test to see if they are accurate
There are several tools that geographers use to study the world. They are maps, GIS, remote sensing, observations, surveys, mathematical models, and air photos.
Geographers... There are many kinds of geographers, however, like cartographers for example. Cartographers are geographers that make and study maps. (Cartography = study of maps)
Cartographers provide the maps that geographers use.
