The history of Halloween goes back a very long time, in most cases before written histories. It began as a way to appease the gods when the earth died for 1/2 a year (winter); ancient beliefs were that the earth passed partially into the 'dark spirit world' during that time of the year. In fact the word "Halloween" means "summers end" in old Irish - English. These celibrations have evolved over the years from many different sources, and today is an amalgamation of these old practices and for most just general fun.
