Your body constantly regulates internal function. This is called homeostasis. Part of this process is maintaining a core body temperature of 98.6 degrees F. If you were to jump into water that was 50 degrees F, what reaction would you have? Immediately, you would inhale quickly. This is your body beginning to shiver, which is a natural warming function. Your heart rate will also increase allowing warm blood to be pumped faster to your extremities. Unfortunately, being in 50 degree water for any extended period of time is never recommended, you will exhaust quickly while keeping warm. During infection or hot days, your body temperature may rise. This is a response to certain microbial stimuli or via the hot sun. What does your body do? Well sweating seems like the most common answer. Producing sweat allows you to cool a lot faster. Also, you will notice yourself getting thirstier.

These are just a few examples that cause your body temperature to remain constant.
