On clear nights, water vapor will condense and form dew as the

temperature drops overnight. When the sun is shining again in the

morning, some solar energy will be used to evaporate the dew. On a

cloudy night, the clouds prevent the heat loss that leads to the

normal overnight temperature drop, so dew does not form. Thus the

morning after a cloudy night, all of the solar energy will contribute

to air temperature since there is no dew to evaporate.
