Generally, having more surface area is harmful to an organism. When single-celled organisms get too large their processes cannot satisfy the needs of their entire body. The same goes for when a human being becomes obese. While there are many other health affects of obesity, being larger means that the body has to work much harder to do normal things. A lot of times the vital organs and necessary body processes can not meet the needs of the body so it shuts down.

What happens when the size of body of organism increases and the body design becomes more complex?

Because the more complex an organism become the more surface area to volume ratio. This means that unlike simple organism(like insects) who rely on diffusion for transport of oxygen and nutrients is readily available due to their excellent surface area to volume ratio. However if an organism has a bad surface area to volume ratio(larger organisms) they require a more efficient flow of oxygen and nutrients throughout their body.

What relationship between surface area and volume must organisms achieve to ensure efficient delivery of nutrients?

Organisms need to have a high surface area to volume ratio to efficiently deliver nutrients. This allows for more surface area through which nutrients can be absorbed, reducing the distance that nutrients need to travel to reach cells inside the organism. This helps to maintain a balance between the intake of nutrients and the needs of the organism for growth and function.

Which covers more surface area a flat surface or a bumpy surface?

A bumpy surface covers more surface area than a flat surface because the bumps add extra surface area. This is due to the irregularities and protrusions on the bumpy surface that increase the overall area that comes into contact with other objects.

What is area to volume in biology?

The ratio of surface area of an organism or cell to its volume is an important biological measure. This is because most interactions between the organism and the rest of the world happen at the its surface. So a bigger surface allows the interaction to happen more easily and therefore, usually, faster. The reactions could be chemical - taking oxygen into blood cells, transmitting it to muscle cells, collecting waste from cells, and so on. Or they could be physical - heat loss or gain.

What is surface area and how you can decrease or increase surface area?

Surface area refers to the total area that covers the surface of an object or structure. To decrease surface area, you can reduce the dimensions of the object or change its shape to be more compact. To increase surface area, you can add extensions, rough textures, or indentations to the object's surface.

How is a cell's potential growth affected by its ration of surface area to volume?

Volume grows exponentially in relation to surface area as both expand to allow an organism to grow. As such, because it takes more mass to fill the surface area, growth slows down at larger sizes.

Which organism has the largest surface area to volume ratio?

The organism with the largest surface area to volume ratio is typically a very small one, such as a single-celled bacterium. As size decreases, the surface area increases relative to volume, allowing for more efficient exchange of materials with the environment. Among multicellular organisms, smaller species like certain protozoa or tiny aquatic invertebrates also exhibit high ratios. However, in general, as organisms grow larger, their surface area to volume ratio decreases.

Why are rough surfaces good emitter of heat?

Rough surfaces have a larger surface area, which enables them to emit more thermal radiation compared to smooth surfaces. This increased surface area allows for more heat transfer between the object and its surroundings, making rough surfaces more effective emitters of heat.

Why does powdered sugar have more surface area?

More than what? The surface area is directly proportional with the dimensions of the particles.

How do the amount of a rock's surface area affect its rate of weathering?

A rock with a larger surface area will weather more rapidly than a rock with a smaller surface area. This is because weathering occurs at the surface of the rock, so more surface area means more exposure to weathering agents like water and air. As a result, rocks with more surface area will break down and deteriorate faster.

Will evaporation Be quicker from a larger surface area of liquid or small surface area?

Evaporation will be quicker from a larger surface area of liquid compared to a smaller surface area. This is because a larger surface area allows more molecules to escape into the air at any given time, increasing the rate of evaporation. Additionally, with more exposed surface area, there is often more exposure to air movement, which can enhance the evaporation process.

How does the large surface area of the leaf help it to make food more efficiently?

the bigger the leaf the more surface area, the more surface area the more food from the sunlight. think about things your brain is capable of figuring things out if you give it the chance
