The Ku-band (12-22 GHz frequency, 2 cm wavelength) is much stronger than the the other bands (x, c, l). With its high capability it is used to study the properties of sea ice and thinner snow, where there is weaker response by the other bands.

Using Ku-band , we get a stronger backscattered radiation from the surface and hence the surface type properties could be studied more in detail.

What is band ratio in remote sensing?

Band ratio in remote sensing is a technique that involves dividing the pixel values of one band of an image by the pixel values of another band. This can enhance certain features or properties in the image, such as vegetation health or mineral composition, by highlighting the differences in spectral responses between the two bands. It is a common method used for image interpretation and analysis in various remote sensing applications.

What are the uses of remote sensing?

The advantages of remote sensing include the ability to collect information over large spatial areas; to characterize natural features or physical objects on the ground; to observe surface areas and objects on a systematic basis and monitor their changes over time;

Electromagnetic spectrum that Is commonly employed in land surveys?

The electromagnetic spectrum commonly used in land surveys includes visible light, infrared, and microwave wavelengths. Visible light is used for traditional surveying methods like theodolites and total stations, while infrared and microwave wavelengths are utilized in techniques such as LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) for remote sensing and mapping applications.

What is remote senses used for?

Remote sensing is used for geography. Remote sensing is one of the tools in geography. Remote sensing is widely applied in science and day to day life.. from planning development for an area to daily weather forecasts. Images obtained from remote sensing give a bird's eye view. These images can be processed to derive information on temperature, minerals, crops, hydrology etc.

What is remote sensing and how does it help in exploration of various natural sources?

Remote sensing is used to pick up variations in electro-magnetics and variations in the forces of gravity. A perspective on natural resources can also be picked up with remote sensing.

What are band ratio in remote sensing?

Band ratio is a technique used in remote sensing that involves dividing the value of one spectral band by another to enhance certain features in the data. By creating ratios of bands, specific information about objects or materials in the scene can be highlighted, such as vegetation health, soil moisture content, or mineral composition. These ratios can help in identifying and mapping different land covers and understanding the underlying properties of a target area.

What are the differences between microwave and infrared radiation in terms of their applications and properties?

Microwave radiation has longer wavelengths and is commonly used in communication technology, cooking, and radar systems. Infrared radiation has shorter wavelengths and is used in night vision, heating, and remote sensing applications. Microwave radiation can penetrate through clouds and walls, while infrared radiation is absorbed by most materials.
