The French woman scientist is credited with the discovery of Radium and Polonium, she was of Polish extraction and married a Frenchman. She was the only woman and only the second person of either gender in history to have ever won two different Nobel Prizes, one for Chemistry and one for Physics. the ony other (doubleheader) was Linus C.Pauling who won the Chemistry Prize and also(in a different year) the Peace Prize. as was the case with Pauling, MMe Curie's Nobel laureates were in different years. She died of radiation-induced cancer in the mid-thirties.
