It was considered heretical because he said the Earth revolves round the Sun, in contradiction of the scriptures. The church reckoned it had the last word on questions of reality, but allowed Galileo to teach the heliocentric theory of Copernicus provided he recognised it as only a theory. They would re-examine the question if Galileo could come up with enough evidence, but science did not have enough evidence at that time.
This was proved in the famous trial of Galileo, when he admitted a lack of evidence and recanted. The episode was seized on by the newly created Protestant churches to attack the Catholic church as opposed to progress.
Galielo was wrong during his lifetime, but later scientific discoveries by Newton and others showed that the current model, which uses Kepler's laws and Newton's law of gravity and laws of motion, with the Sun at the centre, is extremely accurate, and this is generally accepted.
Beacause people thought that the Earth was the middle of the universe, not the sun.
he was imprisoned because he proved the Earth was not the center of the universe, but this contradicts the bible, so he was sentenced to prison for heresy. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Not quit, he went to prison because he proved that the sun turned around the sun and not the sun turn around the earth. But the Church wont believe him so they sent him to jail for "heresy". Heresy means it is like you lie at a religious reason. :) -Yacin-
Galileo's work caused controversy because it challenged the accepted geocentric model of the universe, which placed Earth at the center. His support for the heliocentric model, with the sun at the center, contradicted religious teachings of the time. This led to conflicts with the Catholic Church and Galileo being condemned for heresy.
Galileo was excommunicated by the Catholic Church in 1633 on the orders of the Inquisition. He was found guilty of heresy for supporting the Copernican view that the Earth revolves around the Sun.
Some Catholic ethologists saw them as heresy because they supported the Copernicus' discovery that the earth rotated around the sun. Catholic theology had endorsed the view of Ptolemy (an ancient Greek astronomer) that the sun rotated around the earth. The new discoveries clashed with the Catholic doctrine of the time. Galileo was lucky because the pope was not bother about these issue. This meant that his inquisition led to his house arrest.

He was charged with heresy, a serious crime in those days, for contradicting the church's belief that the Earth is at the centre of the Universe. The church said that if there was proof of this idea, they would have to have a rethink. But in court Galileo could produce no proof and he recanted. But later in the 17th century after Galileo's lifetime scientific discoveries led everyone to accept that the Sun is at the centre of the solar system (but not the Universe).
The Catholic Church accused Galileo Galilei of promoting heresy when he supported the heliocentric model proposed by Nicolaus Copernicus. Galileo's advocacy for the idea that the Earth orbits the Sun contradicted the Church's geocentric view, which held that the Earth was the center of the universe. His views ultimately led to his trial by the Inquisition and his house arrest in 1633.
Nope. The sun is considered a star.
It was Copernicus's theory and Galileo had very little evidence for it at the time of his quarrel with the Vatican, as he discovered when they put him on trial and asked for the evidence.
The safest way to view the sun is by using solar viewing glasses that are specifically designed for this purpose. Regular sunglasses are not sufficient for protecting your eyes from the sun's harmful rays. Additionally, you can also use solar filters on telescopes or cameras to safely view the sun.
Rotation of the Earth, with the sun going out of view.
