If the appliance is turned on, then it will most likely be destroyed. 120 V appliances simply are not rated for 240 V.

Check the applicance's voltage rating. For example, a certain U.S.-made name-brand portable dryer for apartments uses 110 volts, but its voltage rating is 240 volts. Often, if you don't have the specs or the container any more, a quick test is price: If the price was high/normal, it may have the higher voltage rating and is worth researching. If the price was low, it may be damaged. So, you get what you pay for. Here is a follow-up question: Does anyone have views about adapters sold on Amazon's site? Do they work and do they work both directions (step up and step down)?

Can 230V appliance plug into a 230v outlet?

Yes, a 230V appliance can be plugged into a 230V outlet as long as the outlet is compatible with the appliance's plug type and configuration. It's important to ensure that both the voltage and plug type match to avoid damaging the appliance or causing a safety hazard.

Can you rewire a 240v lamp light fitting or small appliance to 110v and if so how?

It is not recommended to rewire a 240v lamp light fitting or appliance to operate on 110v. This can be dangerous and may lead to overheating, electrical fires, or damage to the device. It is safer and more practical to use a voltage converter or purchase a new device designed to work with 110v.

Need to buy a 220V clothes dryer and plug into a 110V outlet A can an electrician rewire or B will a transformer work and C know it will be inefficient but will it be safe?

This isn't an answer- it's from the questioner :) Just to clarify: This is the small, apartment-sized, stacked washer-dryer unit. They used to commonly come in 110V. They are still out there but old and sell for same price used as the used newer 220V. So we'd like to buy a newer used 220V and convert if possible and safe. Don't know the watts on these, tho. But must not be as large as regular sized dryers?

250 volt appliance work in 220 volt world zone?

normally, appliance are built in 110v or 220v, applied in 100-140v and 200-240v. if your 250v appliance is common home appliance equipment, then 220volt is ok, i think. otherwise, you should ask the vendor for special power supply.

Will a 230v microwave work at 240v?

Yes it will. If you consider the variances in voltage that occur during the course of a day, at 230v rating you may be getting 240v coming in anyway. The 10v difference is less than 5% and any appliance worth it's salt will handle this no problem.

Can a 220 plug into a 110 outlet?

Maybe, but probably not. 120v and 240v plug ends are designed differently on purpose to prevent this. If the appliance or item in question is designed to operate on 240 volts, you will have to provide it with a 240 volt receptacle. If you look at the item's nameplate (where model number, wattage, etc is found) it may list more than one voltage i.e. 120/240. This means you would be able to operate the unit on either voltage, provided you are using the proper plug.

What is 220V work on 230V?

Generally, appliances rated for 220V can tolerate minor fluctuations in voltage up to 230V without any issues. However, to ensure the appliance's longevity and safety, it's best to use a voltage stabilizer or converter to regulate the voltage within the device's specified operating range.

Can you plug a 115V appliance into a 120V outlet?

Sure, you can technically plug a 115V appliance into a 120V outlet without blowing up your house, but don't expect it to perform at its best. It's like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole - it might work, but it's not ideal. So go ahead, give it a shot, but don't be surprised if your appliance isn't too thrilled about the situation.

Can a110 volt appliance work on 220 volt cicuit?

No, a 110-volt appliance cannot work on a 220-volt circuit without a transformer or a voltage converter. Plugging a 110-volt appliance directly into a 220-volt outlet can damage the appliance and pose a safety hazard. It's important to ensure that the voltage matches the appliance's requirements to avoid electrical issues. Always check the appliance specifications before use.

Will a device designed for 110v work on 220v?
