Johannes Gutenburg worked for 30 years to finally get the working printing press. He finally did, and the year was 1455.

In the late 1440s Johann Gutenberg developed printing by movable type. (Printing using wood blocks and so on was already well known).Note that printing by movable type was already known in Korea.He invented the printing press in 1454.Gutenberg did not invent the printing press, the printing press he used was a modified lithography press that already existed. What he invented was movable type, which greatly sped up the process of setting up the press for printing.

Gutenburg's experience in metalworking as a goldsmith made it possible for him create the key element of movable lead type. With sets of movable type set up on a modified cheese or wine press, Gutenberg was able to print a page at a time, which proved much quicker than teams of scribes copying documents by hand, one letter at a time.
Johannes Gutenberg did not invent the periscope. The periscope was invented by Sir Howard Grubb in 1854 for use in submarines. Gutenberg is best known for inventing the movable-type printing press in the 15th century, which revolutionized the printing industry.
