Gravure.
The process you are referring to is called "intaglio printing." It involves creating an image by incising grooves into a metal plate, filling the grooves with ink, wiping the surface clean, and then pressing paper onto the plate to transfer the ink onto the paper.
An intaglio plate, more commonly referred to as an etching plate in the United States, is a metal plate (usually zinc or copper) which has been coated with a resistant substance, draw upon with a sharp stylus (breaking through the coating), and then etched in acid to create lines within the plate. Ink is then forced into the grooves within the plate; under pressure the plate will release the ink unto dampened paper, creating an "etching" or "intaglio" print. Side note - roughly translated, "intaglio" is Italian for "within the surface."

Answer 1For well over a hundred years in the printing industry, Intaglio has been a process in which groves are etched into a copper plate to receive and hold ink, in the areas where it is desired to have ink print out on the paper. The ink was applied to the entire plate, and the excess was "wiped off" with a blade called a "doctor blade."The sheet of printing paper was placed into contact with the plate, and when pressure was applied, the paper surface picked up the ink out of the groves. The process was also refered to as "Photogravure," and was used to print the Sunday Photogravure inserts nationwide. Since the advent of modern offset printing technology, the use of Photogravure has been superceded.Advantages of the Intaglio/Photogravure prosess included very long plate life resulting in the ability to make many more copies before plate changes, and also, made very high quality color separation half-tone plates for [at the time] the ultimate in color reproduction quality.

Printing is a subtractive process; all the colors combine to form black.
The leading edge in printing refers to the part of the paper or media that enters the printer first during the printing process. It is where the printing process begins, and it is essential to ensure proper alignment and accurate printing.
In relief printmaking, the matrix is a block of wood or linoleum. Using knives and gouges, the artist cuts away lines and areas. When the artist rolls or dabs ink onto the block, the ink adheres only to the surface, skipping over the cut-away areas.Intaglio (from the Italian world to carve) might be considered the reverse of relief printing. The matrix in intaglio is a thin plate of metal (usually zinc or copper), plexiglass, or any other surface in which a line can be engraved. Each intaglio process uses a different method of creating permanent marks on the plate.
textile printing is the process of applying colour to fabric.
