In terms of visibility, the main customers of a news agency are media outlets of all sorts, which can be newspapers, broadcasters (TV and radio stations), magazines, web portals and all kind of organizations which practice journalism. However, in major news agencies, these respond for only a small portion of their sources of revenue. Their main clients are corporations and individuals, mostly in the financial industry, such as banks, insurance companies, consulting firms, stock exchanges and their respective business people. These customers not only subscribe to the regular wire services, but also often order customized reporting, such as intelligence or coverage on demand. This kind of service is a huge source of revenue to the current big news agencies (Reuters, AP, AFP and Bloomberg). Governments are also big subscribers of wire services. Most news agencies practice different subscription prices for media and non-media clients, as well as different services and news packages for each of these.
