Who was Hashime Murayama?

H Murayama was a very successful artist who did a tremendous amount of work for the National Geographic Magazine from the 1920's up to the early 1940's. Information about him is not easy to locate despite his success. His work is very realistic and detailed. Most the work I have seen centers on fish and animals. The National Geographic magazine produced many of his works in color.

Hashime Murayama was a Japanese mathematician known for his work in number theory and algebraic geometry. He made important contributions to the theory of quadratic forms and automorphic forms. Murayama was also a professor at Nagoya University for much of his career.
