Yes, of course they are. To become RNs they must successfully complete a Bachelor of Nursing (or Nursing Science etc) at university, which is very comprehensive, technical and science/research based. They study subjects such as Human Bioscience, Pharmacology, Anatomy & Physiology, Mental Health, Acute Care, Community and many others. All students must also successfully complete several months of Clinical Practicum, where they must display complex technical skills, advanced communication skills and a broad knowledge base. Many RNs go on to complete Graduate Certificates, Masters or PhDs in Nursing, which require a great deal of knowledge and experience, an ability to be an independent learner, research and academic writing skills and innovation.
