A CNA can only provide activities of daily living for the client and take vital signs lifting and transporting a client, and chart info on the patients vital signs and visible condion.

A LPN can do all of what the CNA does but their scope of practice is more elevated than the CNA's because they can administer medication and care for wounds with the permission of a RN or a doctor.

Do you have to be a CNA before you can be a LPN?

No, you do not have to be a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) before becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). However, some individuals choose to gain experience as a CNA to better understand patient care before pursuing LPN training. LPN programs typically have their own admission requirements, which may vary by institution.

Can you work as a CNA while your LPN license is suspended?

No, you cannot work as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) while your Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license is suspended. A suspended LPN license indicates that you are not legally permitted to practice nursing in that capacity, and working as a CNA could also be considered a violation of the terms of your suspension. It's important to resolve any issues related to your LPN license before seeking employment in any nursing role.

What's the difference between LPN and CNA training?

An LPN requires more schooling since you are the nurse. The CNA is just the nurses assistant. Both options are needed, but I would say that LPNs are going to be more in demand, since most people would rather take the shorter route and not go through all of the schooling.

Yes, a certified Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) can work as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), as their training and certification exceed the requirements for CNA roles. However, they must still adhere to any specific state regulations regarding dual roles. While LPNs can perform CNA duties, they may be limited in their scope of practice based on the employer's policies and the state’s nursing regulations.
