If you're about to have a blood test taken you might have received instructions not to eat at a particular time prior to the test. In that case - follow the instructions. ∙ 12y agoFasting is usually only required if you are having a "fasting blood glucose" blood test, or possibly a cholesterol test. Fasting counts as approximately 14 hours (but generally means "have your dinner the evening beforehand, but no breakfast or food until after your blood test, and only clear sugar-free fluids before your blood test") .
