Nursing organizations do not provide certification for registered nurses, you have to write the Canadian Registered Nurse Exam and be vetted by the provincial licensing authority in order to obtain your nursing license. Once you have a nursing license you can obtain certification at a number of different levels. Many hospitals have "in house" certification programs for procedures like starting intravenous infusions, preparing and changing CV lines, monitoring pitocin drips, managing and monitoring personal pain control administration etc. If you want to apply for registration you must apply to the provincial nursing organizaton and they will evaluate your nursing education and experience as to whether it is equivalent to that obtained in Canada. At a another level the Canadian Nurses Association offers certification in a number of specialty areas. Many nurses seek this qualification as a way of validating their expertise in a specialty.
