No, gold/silver/platinum plated objects contain so little precious metal that they wouldn't make anything if they stripped it off and melted it down, it is simply too time consuming for the little amount of precious metal in there.
The small 13mm to 15mm diameter US gold $1 coins made from 1849-1889 are not gold plated. They are 90% gold & 10% silver.
Gold plated over silver means that there is a layer of gold covering the silver object. While the gold layer is real, the underlying metal is silver. So it is not considered fake, but it is not solid gold either.
Gold-plated, not gold. The Morgan design was used on silver dollars, so the good news is that the underlying silver coin is worth about $15 as of 06/2010

The Halfcrown is a silver coin. If you have a gold coin it is because somebody plated it. Modified coins have no collector value.
$1. It's not gold, it's gold-plated. These coins were struck in copper-nickel or 40% silver, never in gold.
It depends on if it's made of gold or just gold plated. It has no value as a coin. Take it to a jewler. Most buy scrap gold & silver.
A few cents for the gold plating and about $7 for the underlying silver coin. Unfortunately whoever plated the coin effectively destroyed its value as a collectible.
If it's really gold-plated ( 10K / 14K / 18K ....) you don't want to plate it with silver for the gold using is the value of the jewelry. Do u mean yellow gold plated to white gold plated? If that's what you want, the answer is yes! You can have it plated to your desired color without changing the gold content!
There's no such thing as a gold silver dollar. Dollar coins were made of gold (1854-1889) or silver (1794-1935) but the 2 metals were never mixed. Most likely you have a silver dollar coin that was plated. Unfortunately being plated reduces its value to that of the raw metal in it, about $10 as of 06/2009.
1923 is a common date Peace dollar struck in silver not gold, it's possible the coin has toned a gold like color and values for circulated coins are $14.00-$19.00. If the coin has been gold plated the value is just for the silver and is about $13.00
$1. Gold plating adds no value to the coin and collectors view the coin as damaged. It is worth no more than face value.
