As far as the lack of a mint mark goes, did you look at the other pennies in your change? Philadelphia cents have NEVER had a mint mark, even though other denominations started carrying a P in 1979/80. The reason is that the San Francisco and West Point Mints are sometimes called on to strike extra cents when demand is high. None of the 3 mints put a mark on pennies so the 2 branch mints don't create instant rarities with a W or S.
