∙ 13y agoIt depends on how it is used. "Está" is the third person singular form of the verb "estar", and would mean "he/she/it is". Example: "El vaso está en la mesa" (the glass is on the table).
"Esta" is the word for "this" when referring to a feminine object. "Esta mesa es hecho de madera" (This table is made of wood).

If it is a male and single "this" with the item being demonstrated, it carries no accent. Example: Este libro es grande. - This book is big.
If it is a male and single "this" where the item is not mentioned, it carries an accent on the first "e". Example: Éste es el primer libro que he leído. - This is the first book that I have read.
If it is the third person singular present subjunctive of the verb "estar", meaning "that he may be", the accent goes on the second "e". Example. No creo que Miguel esté contento con una nota mala. -- I don't think that Miguel is happy with a low grade.
