There are hundreds of stem changing verbs in Spanish. But some of them are:

  • pensar (to think)
  • pedir (to ask for)
  • servir (to serve)
  • querer (to want)
  • advertir (to warn)
  • ascender (to go up)
  • atravesar (to go through, to cross)
  • cerrar (to close)
  • comenzar (to begin, to start)
  • mentir (to lie)
  • perder (to lose)
  • entender (to understand)
  • preferir (to prefer).

Again these are just a tiny little fraction, but they are very useful.

Pensar is the Spanish verb for "to think". It is a "stem changing" verb, since the stem of the verb is "pens", and when conjugated, the "e" will change to "ie". Pienso, piensas, piensa, pensamos, pensáis, piensan. This irregularity is not carried over to most of the other conjugations.

What Spanish verb is needed to make this sentence complete Yo que el concierto fue muy bueno?

Answer: CREO or CREÍAExplanation: The sentence at current is "I ______ that the concert was very good." Naturally, the blank is the verb to "think" or "believe". It is proper grammar in Spanish to use the verb "creer", meaning to believe, in this type of sentence (instead of "pensar", meaning to think). You then need to conjugate "creer" for the "yo" form, which is "creo" in the present tense or "creía" in the imperfect. The difference in meaning is "I think that concert was very good" vs. "I thought that the concert was very good".
