You can't translate all names into French perfectly; however, Matthew does have a French equivalent. First, it's spelled Matthieu. It's pronounced almost the same except the "th" is more harsh, almost sounding like just a "t," and the"you" sound at the end is shorter, like you only follow through with half the "w."

You can also find the writing "Mathieu" with a single "t".
