I found out on my own: when a grandson is born & is given the same name as his father who is ' Jr. ' & his grandfather is ' Sr. ', the baby becomes the ' III ' , the father becomes the ' II ' & the grandfather becomes the ' I ' .

While the above may hold true is some cases, it is perfectly normal for the grandfather and father to maintain their "Sr/Jr" titles and for the son to be given the III title. My grandfather was Michael Sr. My father was Michael Jr. and my little brother was Michael III.

If the grandson's name is the same as the grandfather but not the father is the grandson considered the second?

If you name a child after its grandfather and the child and grandfather have the same surname and middle name (if any), then the child can be called "the second."However if someone in your generation (a brother or cousin) is also named after the grandfather and has the same middle and surname, that person is "the second" and your child would be "the third."

Can a great grandson be name the III after his father grandfather?

Yes, a great-grandson can be named the III if he shares the same name as his grandfather and great-grandfather. Typically, the designation of "III" indicates that he is the third individual in a direct line to bear that name. However, naming conventions can vary by family and culture, so it's ultimately up to the family's preference.
