feminine, but uses the masculine definite pronoun "el", because it starts with stressed "a", then to avoid the ugly sound "la agua", we say: "el agua". The same rule is applied for nouns like "alma, hacha, águila, hada, ágata", etc.

El agua es cristalina --- water is glassy
