Rainsford loves hunting and thinks animals do not have feelings; he is the more hardened and cold of the two men, and sees the world as just made up of the hunter and the hunted. But Whitney is not as certain, since he believes animals do experience a sense of fear when they are hunted, and he believes only the hunter enjoys hunting, and the prey does not enjoy anything about it.
