Como esta y que tal?
This is really a question ?Que onda? and ?Como estas? This means literally How are the waves? and How are youu (familiar, not formal or to elders (Como Esta? Both the word Que has an accent and the words estas over the a and esta over the a. Que onda? is a very hip way of saying "Hey. What's cool?" or How it hanging or waving, slight pun intended for males to joke about their male parts. Nevertheless, it is very cool to say Que onda? without being disrespectful.

¿ Como estas ? (informal , for people your age or that you know )¿ Como esta ? ( formal , for older people or teachers etc )"como estas" or "que tal" both work. The first one is more literally "how are you", the second is more like "what's up".

The colloquial phrase What is up can be translated as: ¿Que tal? or ¿Como va? Similar examples are the formal How are you? ¿Como esta? and the slang What's good? ¿Que bien? For a literal translation, meaning what is up (referring to an object above head) ¿Que esta arriba de (followed by a description of where to look)?
