Fur is about two girls, Suzanne and Eleanor, and about a birthday gift. Suzanne has been asked by her uncle Bertram Kneyght what she wished for a birthday present.Bertram is very rich, so Suzanne is a bit embrrassed to ask for 'a fur coat' which will seem to uncle Bertram a silly thing. So she seeks help from herfriendEleanor. Eleanor tells her that if gift is offered by a rich person, then you should go for a better brand like 'silver-fox'.

They make a plan to make uncle visit the shop where Eleanor would ask Suzanne what she wanted for her birthday & she would reply, " a silver-fox fur coat." But Eleanor asked for a favour in return. She wanted Suzanne to play cards with aunts for an evening , so that she could meet her boyfriend. Suzanne rejects her request saying that playing with aunties bores her.

They become successful in their plan. In the shop, Suzanne walks ahead of the other two. Eleanor starts talking to Bertram. She tells him that Suzanne's b'day comes after her's & that Suzanne being well off always gets nice gifts & she never get anything worth showing. Once her uncle offered her a silver-fox fur coat, but his wife died & he settled abroad. Thus the 'silver-fox fur coat' remained a dream. She also tells since Suzanne goes to lots of dances 'a fan' will please her.

A few days later, Suzanne rang up Eleanor to thank her for her gift & informs her Bertram had given her an fan. Eleanor replies that she should see what he had given her and praises hisgenerosity.

NB: Bertram has given Eleanor the 'silver-fox fur coat'. Eleanor has lied that her b'daycomesbefore Suzanne's. The incident brings a curtain to their relation.

Eleanor and Suzanne are good friends. They both have birthdays coming up. They decide to coerce Suzanne's cousin into buying her an expensive fur as a gift. Before "bumping" into the cousin on the street to pull off their plan, Eleanor asks Suzanne to do her a favor before she helps her get the birthday gift by showing up to her house for bridge so she can have a moment with a gentleman who is due to show up. Suzanne being selfish decides she doesn't like the others playing bridge and she will not help her friend. As Suzanne's cousin shows up to the store, Eleanor decides to switch the plan and tell him the wrong thing to get her. The moral of the story is the golden rule, do unto others as you would have them do to you. You can't expect things without giving in return.
