Unum is Latin for one. Also if you are talking about one feminine thing it would be una, if you would be talking about one masculine thing it would be unus, and if you are talking about one neuter thing (as shown above) you would say unum.

If you are asking "Why would someone take Latin if people don't speak it anymore?" Then I can answer that question. Latin helps you with vocabulary when it comes to the point when you take S.A.T. (a huge test in college or high school that depends ALOT of things.) It is the best language to take if you struggle with things like that. Some of the smartest people I know take Latin!
